Paintings by Wil Lof are abstract compositions, which evoke emotions in many through their figuration. That is also the essence of her motivation, she believes in art as a medium to convey feelings of emotion, emotion and togetherness to others in an appealing and recognizable way.
Her figurative paintings, executed in acrylic on canvas, linen or paper, show abstracted female figures that come together, are together, and go their separate ways again. Sometimes the colors are strong and pronounced, sometimes also vague and the figures dissolve into the background.
The compositions are mysterious and speculative in the mutual relationship of the rudimentary figures, whose body language communicates primary feelings such as love, belonging, fear, isolationism and the like. In other works, the image planes and the interplay of lines evoke visual images that transport the viewer to veiled distances.
Wil's abstractions sometimes go so far that no figures can be distinguished, but only a play of straight or curved lines. Not infrequently, such color compositions lead the viewer to speculative imagination and interpretive imagination of the painting.
Wil Lof applies a special painting technique in her paintings. Each painting contains a layered series of transparent scenes, so that the tone and composition of the image changes with the incident daylight or artificial light. The resulting dynamics provide surprising and exciting changes as days and seasons pass.
