FROM BECOMING TO VANITAS
In the philosophy of Wiegen den Uyl, the process of becoming and the ongoing movement play an important role. Using coagulation processes and using figurative form elements, he goes in search of the phenomenon of “becoming” and its “Essence” through painting and drawing. You can see his paintings as a kind of scan recording. They form cross-sections or snapshots of the process that concerns him. He does not want to be too compelling with his figuration. The forms can be seen as living creatures, but whether they are animal or human, he leaves open.
Wiegen den Uyl builds up his paintings in layers and where necessary or possible he reacts to the underlying layers. His works on paper are more direct and less layered.
In other words: Painting from a different point of view, namely where coincidence and law go together.
Or rather: grabbing the elusive.
And not unimportant; all works are unique.
