What do we mean by modern art?
By modern art we mean works of art by (mainly Dutch) artists who have influenced the international art world from the beginning of the 20th century to about the 1960s. One of the most important art movements that the Netherlands has produced is the Cobra movement. Although this art movement only existed for a short time from 1948 to 1951, its influence was very great. The most famous Dutch artists from this movement were Karel Appel and Corneille, but there were many more, such as Anton Rooskens and Eugène Brands. The Cobra artists remained active until the 21st century. Modern Dutch Art Kunstgalerie has one of the largest collections of Cobra artists. In addition to the Cobra artists, the collection is supplemented with other Dutch and international artists who we believe have been important, such as Bram van Velde and Sam Francis (USA). What type of modern artwork do we have?
The modern artworks in our collection are mainly graphics such as screen prints and lithographs. But also a number of unique works on paper. Since these works are almost exclusively on paper, they require a frame with glass to protect the artwork. The frame, and the way of framing, is a personal choice and a craft, which is why we work together with the most famous frame maker in the Zaanstreek 'Staphorsius Lijstenmakerij'. After your order, we will personally coordinate the frame and the way of framing with you. You can of course also go to the frame maker yourself, in all cases we only use museum glass to optimally protect your artwork and to be able to enjoy it optimally. When viewing our modern art collection, you will see photos of the artwork in one frame, this is for illustration purposes only, you are completely free to choose the frame and the way of framing.
